On Saturday, October 6, 2007, the Friday Harbor Tigers Junior Football Team brought their season record to 5 wins, 0 losses with a win over the Lakewood Maroon Cougars, final score 36 to 0, in Everett, WA.

Micah Powell, this week’s Defensive MVP, led the Defensive Play of the Game by pulling the pigskin out of the Cougars Running Backs’ hands and running for a defensive touchdown.  Powell was so quick to strip the ball and run in the opposite direction, it took both the Cougar Running Back and the Tigers Fans a few seconds to determine that the Cougars no longer had the ball.

On Offense, Jaise Poole earned this week’s Offensive MVP award for his offensive execution excellence.  Jaise ran the ball for the most gained yards, scored two of the five team touchdowns and carried the ball for a touchdown conversion.  Carson Brown earned Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second week in a row.  “Carson was our key blocker, enabling our successful ‘up the middle’ offense,” said the team’s Head Coach Donny Galt.

The Offensive Play of the Game came in the third quarter when Micah Powell powered a 25+-yard halfback pass to Kaleb Warner, Tigers wide receiver, that brought the Tigers to the Cougar goal line.

Kaleb Warner also earned recognition as the Most Improved Player this week. “Kaleb stepped up and played football today!!” said Coach Cliff Swirtz.  “He is one of our most improved players of the year.”  Warner completed the aforementioned long pass reception, executed several defensive tackles and successfully blocked a pass that prevented the opponent’s bid for a first down.

The Juniors Tigers have a bye this weekend, and are preparing for their last regular-season game against Sedro Woolley Blue scheduled for October 20th.  The Tigers Football program – Cubs, Freshman and Juniors – is sponsored by the Friday Harbor Athletic Association (FHAA).
